Hello Friends!

What’s New on the Farm!

Here a chick, there a chick…!

With the “buffs” (Buff Orpingtons), Rhode Island Reds, and Barred Rocks living their best lives together out on the pasture, we are blessed with beautiful hens running around everywhere! And as we all know, chickens have a multitude of predators! So, we take extra precautions by putting up temporary fencing around them, which we move regularly to maintain the soil quality and provide the chickens with fresh pasture and plenty of yummy worms (yummy is relative, of course)!

In addition to that, we have “guard” geese that help protect the chickens from Hawk attacks by their mere presence and noise (and they can really make some noise)! But in addition to all that, we have a Buff Orpington rooster who indeed “rules the roost.” This “rooster raider” is on guard duty all day, only leaves his post to grab some chow quickly, and is ready to defend the flock with his life. He wasn’t trained by the Marine Corps, but we’re not so sure HE knows that! We keep our distance from him too, because he trusts no one with his girls, including us!

Thankful!!

If you know anything about farming, you know it isn’t always as glamorous as it looks! Okay, it’s never actually glamorous. :) It’s sweaty, dirty, and downright hard sometimes. But as we reflect on the year, we’re grateful for our health and for the ability to keep going when it wasn’t always easy. We’re thankful for the volunteer work we’ve had, which is more of a blessing than we can articulate, and we’re grateful to have a beautiful place to raise our animals on pasture.

The animals are pure joy (well, most of the time anyway), from the cows following us around hoping we have a treat and the pigs playing in the mud, to over a hundred chickens running up to greet us! We have gotten muddy, sweaty, and tired; but it is such a labor of love, and we wouldn’t rather be doing anything else. God has been incredibly good to us, and we are grateful for His blessings on us and on the farm.

And we would be remiss without lastly thanking our loyal and faithful customers. Without you, we couldn’t continue doing what we love so much! We are thankful for your love and support, and it is our desire to continue bringing you quality pasture-raised products that you can feel good about feeding your friends and family. Knowing where our food comes from and how it was raised is so important, and we want to help make that available to everyone who tries to live by those standards. We are blessed to have great farmer’s markets in our area where we can get fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and eggs straight from local farmers who put their heart and soul into their work.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays because it seems to be the one holiday that hasn’t gotten a lot of commercial attention. Sure, we see some pumpkins and turkeys here and there, but mostly it’s still a quiet American holiday nestled into a world full of noise that is rich in family traditions, good food, and lots of love and gratitude. May we all be a little more grateful this year as we count our blessings. And remember, if you can’t think of anything to be thankful for, hey, at least you’re not a turkey!
